Total Care Physicians - Project Spotlight

Healthcare Facilities Solutions recently completed the 5,000 sq. ft interior renovation project for Total Care Physicians General Practitioners’ Office in Wilmington, DE.

As it is in all of HFS designs, the design approach incorporated hospitality based principles as well as providing efficiencies in the floor plan which enhanced the work productivity and environment for clinical staff.  This allowed staff to function more effectively while providing streamlined patient care and increasing the amount of patients seen per day by 32%.

Strategically placed areas such as the MA/PA workstation, lab/patient restroom area, and office manager office contributed to the efficiencies of the space.  This allowed staff to multi-task throughout their day and have full visibility of the patient care areas at all times.  The reception desk configuration created privacy between patients at check in and those who are checking out with respect to confidentiality issues and HIPPA –a key focus in any successfully designed practice.  A “back of house” area was designed with a separate entrance to segregate the break room and support staff offices from the main clinical area.

The interior finishes specified were of soothing tones of green, blue & taupe.  A solution dyed, highly patterned carpet was selected for the waiting area, corridors, and all support offices to provide for acoustics and a feeling of warmth in the space while hiding wear from daily traffic and or soiling.  Vinyl plank flooring was utilized in all clinical areas for infection control and ease of maintenance.  Crash rails line the corridors to provide added protection for the walls against gurneys, equipment, and general wear on the walls while sconces lined the corridors reiterated the hospitality based design approach.

Particular attention to furniture selection was made for the waiting room due to this being a high volume practice.  Tandem waiting room chairs with vinyl seats, Crypton back upholstery, and urethane arm caps were specified to provide for a clean and orderly footprint while ensuring they would stand the test of time.

Total Care Physicians’ North Wilmington facility illustrates the transformation of healthcare design in today’s competitive market which streamlines operations in the name of patient care while remaining focused on heightened consumer expectations.

“We recently opened our beautiful new medical office after being at our previous location for 40 years…We increased our capacity from 8 exam rooms to 12. Since our opening, the doctors have reported an increase in the proper flow of patients, the ability to stay on schedule and not to mention the employee morale and patient satisfaction is through the roof.

From the initial design, to each meeting, email, telephone conversation, but most of all plan changes, I could count on HFS to listen, respond and get the job done. I had some concerns early on in the project in regards to the construction schedule, but we opened exactly on time and everything went according to schedule.

I cannot say enough about the level of professional service that I received…This was my first experience in the design/build concept and with the constant help of Dave Heaney(President) and Jack Sullivan(Construction Manager) the entire process was seamless.
Total Care Physicians had this vision of relocating a very long time ago...HFS was the catalyst to bringing our dream to reality.”
